A model for the zeta potential of copper sulphide
نویسندگان
چکیده
A model is proposed for the zeta-potential versus pH curve of Covellite (CuS). he classical Gouy-Chapman-Stern treatment of the adsorption of protons is applied to a model surface derived from the crystallographic data. he surface charges are obtained by an original adaptation of the concepts from the MUSIC model to a sulphide, i.e. the analysis of the chemical bonding in Pauling’s electrostatic valence framework to derive partial surface charges. he authors develop a sotware for the itting of pz-pH curves using IPHREEQC for the calculation of the zeta potential at each pH point and MATLAB to drive the calculation of the whole pH set and the optimisation of the parameters: capacitances of the double layer, site densities, charges and acidity constants. he model successfully reproduces the experimental data, considering only two sulphided surface sites: introduction of an elemental sulphur layer or consideration of hydroxyl surface sites is not required to explain the charging behaviour of Covellite when carefully precipitated under nitrogen.

A Laboratory Study of Removing Arsenic from a Synthetic Copper Concentrate
Arsenic is the 20th most abundant element in the earth's crust at a level of about 2 ppm. It is a constituent of over 300 minerals and is commonly found in non-ferrous ores such as copper, lead, zinc, gold and uranium. Efficient separation of arsenic minerals from other sulphide minerals is of great importance for the metallurgical performance of flotation processes. This work was undertaken to...
متن کاملA Study of Zeta Potential of Plasma Sprayed Hydroxyapatite Coating in Four Simulated Physiological Solutions
The zeta potential magnitude and the duration of its changes have been thought to be directly related to the surface reactivity, the governing of osteoconductivity and availability of valuable information in determining the anticipated in-vivo performance of implants. In this study the zeta potential of plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite (HA) was evaluated in various simulated physiological solution...
متن کاملAssessment of Potential Health Hazards During Emission of Hydrogen Sulphide from the Mine Exploiting Copper Ore Deposit - Case Study.
AIM The aim of this study was to determine hydrogen sulphide concentration emitted from the mine extracting copper ore, to evaluate potential adverse health effects to the population living in four selected villages surrounding the exhaust shaft. MATERIALS Maximum measured concentration of hydrogen sulphide in the emitter is 286 µg/m³. Maximum emission calculated from the results of determina...
متن کاملKey parameters determining structure and properties of sulphide films formed on copper corroding in anoxic sulphide solutions
The corrosion behaviour of copper was studied in anoxic solutions containing different concentrations of sulphide (10–10 mol L) and chloride (0?1–5 mol L) under stagnant and controlled convective conditions. The main determinants of the structure and properties of the copper sulphide (Cu2S) films formed are the rate of sulphide transport to the surface relative to the rate of its interfacial re...
متن کاملApproximate resistivity and susceptibility mapping from airborne electromagnetic and magnetic data, a case study for a geologically plausible porphyry copper unit in Iran
This paper describes the application of approximate methods to invert airborne magnetic data as well as helicopter-borne frequency domain electromagnetic data in order to retrieve a joint model of magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity. The study area located in Semnan province of Iran consists of an arc-shaped porphyry andesite covered by sedimentary units which may have potential ...
